What is botox?
Botox is a drug made from a toxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. It\’s the same toxin that causes life-threatening food poisoning.
The bacteria can also be found in the intestinal tracts of mammals and fish and in the gills and organs of crabs and other shellfish.
Cases like this of the naturally occurring Clostridium botulinum bacterium are generally harmless germs. Problems arise only when the spores turn into plant cells and the number of cells increases.
At a certain point, the bacteria begins to produce botulinum toxin, the deadly neurotoxin responsible for food poisoning.
Neurotoxins target the nervous system, disrupting the signaling processes that allow neurons to communicate effectively.
